Each sensor has thick/thin components that align whenever door or window is closed. Alerts trigger when opening causes the components to pull apart. Ring subscription needed for alerts; Ring base station needed (within 250') to detect sensors. Adhesive backing. Each uses two CR2032 batteries, included. 2" l x 1.5" w x .5" thick.
